Fly fishing in general makes a much bigger deal about Grasshoppers than Crickets, but trout take them both with vigor. I haven't done a formal study (so please correct me if I'm wrong), but it seems that Grasshoppers are seasonal and Crickets are perennial, at least here in California. I seem to see Crickets all year. I have trouble recalling with any detail what these little trout-morsels look like when I sit at my fly tying table. What follows are tons of close-up pictures of different Crickets. Enjoy.

The underside is probably the side that I was most curious about, and of course the most difficult to get them to pose for. This one was hanging upside down from the grill of the tank lid. It's not the best shot, but better than nothing, I guess.
Next page contains detailed wings and wing buds pics.
