DFG Stocks Piru Creek

DFG Stocks Piru Creek at Frenchman Flats March 6th, 2008

So I am hanging out at Concrete Falls trying to land a couple of wild trout before heading to work when I hear from another fly fisher that the DFG is stocking the creek.  I remembered hearing that the DFG site named Piru Creek as a stock location for this week, but I really didn't expect to see them where I was: in the wild trout section.  I also expected to see the big green water tanker style truck, but instead there was the rig pictured below.  I also expected some fairly complex or even sort of slick method of introducing their stockers into the water.  That wasn't the case either.

It should be noted that the creek is finally clearing up.  Concrete Falls is pictured below, and the clarity is +/- 1ft.  Much improved from the zero visibility since the last storm.

Below is a picture of the stocking truck live-well that can carry up to 300 pounds of trout.

This next shot is of the high-tech method of planting trout in a stream... first put fish in a bucket.

Here is a DFG worker filling the previously mentioned bucket.

Last, but not least, the buckets - and the trout - get carried stream-side where they are unceremoniously released into the creek.

Is it cause for concern that the stockers were all dropped in the wild trout section of the creek, because a film crew was blocking easy access to the open fishing area?  Only time will tell if this helps the trout, by being in the catch-n-release area, or merely means that more people will be ignoring the signage prohibiting barbed hooks and keeping trout.  I, of course, hope it's the former.
