Beaded Caddis Nymph

How to Tie the Beaded Caddis Nymph

This is an easy tie that catches fish on waters holding caddis larvae.  It isn't my pattern, I found it on a website that sells flies.  I spotted the overbody - invented by Gary LaFontaine - and thought I would tie up a few.

Recipe:

Hook: Tiemco 2487 #12
Thread: Olive 6/0
Body: Craft beads (I use glass)
Overbody: Tan sparkle yarn
Head: Nickle colored tungsten

Slide the tungsten bead on first, followed by at least 3 beads

Start the thread behind the last bead and catch in a small amount of yarn

Use a good quality comb and comb out the yarn. Now tie off and clip thread.

Start the thread again at the head, building up enough to keep the beads tight

Pull half of the yarn over one side of the body and catch it in. Repeat on the other side.

Snug the thread and trim the yarn.

Whip finish and trim thread.
