Eventually Brad and I got together for a bit of tree decorating. This next pic is probably the luckiest shot I have ever captured. Brad had a fair amount of line out on the surface of a nice pool attempting to get back behind the brush where the little buggers couldn't see him. A usually very solid fly-fisherman, here he shows how to miss a take and simultaneously scare every fish in the pool.
Fair is fair. Here I am after attempting a hero cast downstream to a rising trout. I kept missing that cast by about 6 feet, and even though I suspected the result would involve trees rather that trout, the prospect of making the impossible throw made me greedy. Yep, I fired that sucker straight into the trees behind me.
This pool was my favorite. There was a large - for the creek - trout that would sit boldly just out from an undercut showing off. From the top looking down, I couldn't tell what flavor of trout is was, but it looked like a brookie. I am certain there aren't any Brooke Trout in the area, so I really wanted to land it just to see what it was and what the rest of it looked like. Turned out that fish was smarter than me. It had no use for anything I offered.
Here I am trying to get that fish I just described. It wasn't my first, nor my last attempt to sneak down and show it a fly.
