Ok, If you go, you should know:

  • There are bears.  Food items must be locked in bear bins.
  • Dogs are not allowed on the hiking trails.
  • Mosiquitos are plentiful.
  • Camp sites are first-come-first-served.  Try arriving on Tuesday.  It worked for me.
  • The Kings River is fast and dangerous.  Bring a wading staff, but generally stay out of the water.
  • It will cost $20 to enter the park - plus $18/night to camp.

I suggest the following flies - small - #16 is the biggest size I caught with:

  • Air-Head (killed 'em)
  • Elk Hair Caddis (worked on Browns mostly)
  • Messy Bessy (killed 'em) - Tying instructions on this site
  • Pheasant Tail Flash-back nymph
  • Bead-headed Copper John (green)
  • Midge nymphs (black and white killed 'em)
