When Exploring Fails - Castaic Lake Feed Streams

Last week i posted about a successful exploration trip.  Today I am posting about a failed trip.  I have seen the feed streams for Castaic Lake in the winter, and they look wonderful.  Once on a trip to Piru Creek with a friend, we were detoured off of the 5 freeway and had to go around Castaic.  It was winter - there was a lot of water - and I mentally bookmarked the location to explore later.

Today was later.

Castaic Lake is shaped like a "V" with the open end facing north.  I tried both inlets, and struke out twice.

This was the destination that I had the most hope for since I found a picture on GoogleMaps that looked great. Once I got down to the base of the hill I shot this picture from, I met some hikers returning from the same pass I planed on entering.  They laughed when I asked if there was a creek back there...

This one here is another shot of the north-west tip of Castaic Lake.

Here is the now dry feed-stream that only months ago looked prime.  No water.

Another picture of the same "stream" - there is even a bridge - I guess it's there for the winter months.

Hey, it was still fun and I was able to check this location off of my mental list of places to explore.
